DNA Testing During Pregnancy

The cool thing is that DNA testing during pregnancy can make such determinations during pregnancy. This can be done by blood or saliva tests after the child is born, but before the child is born, the procedure is a little more complicated. A paternity during pregnancy must be done by a process called an amniocentesis. What is Amniocentesis? With an amniocentesis, the paternity test before birth is done on the amniotic fluid. This can take place between 14 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. With the guidance of an ultrasound, the physician will insert a needle into the uterus and into the amniotic [more...]

DNA findings point to royal roots in African nations

Holland attributes his success to GeneTree, a Utah-based DNA testing service that came up with the Cameroon connection. But GeneTree's chief scientific officer, geneticist Scott Woodward, said Williams' case was far from unusual. "This isn't our home run," Woodward told me. "It takes a lot of regular work. But what did do was give us some nice clues and hints about where he should concentrate his efforts. Should he be looking in Cameroon, or should he be looking in Nigeria? That makes a big difference." In fact, previous genetic tests had indeed suggested that Holland's [more...]

HTB – Early infant diagnosis

She concluded that promising POC assays for EID today include: IQuum’s LIAT, SAMBA, CIGHT p24 and possibly CLONDIG’s viral load assay. comment This was an incredibly useful overview and it looks like we can be optimistic about having a POC test for EID in the next couple of years. Other presentations at the conference dealt with the challenges of access to EID. In the same session, Shaffiq Essajee noted that EID access has improved and in some countries more than 50% of exposed infants are tested. But infant testing is usually linked to PMTCT and if coverage is low, so is infant [more...]

T Test - One or Two Tailed? » Financial Risk Manager » Forum ...

Hi Arun, I didn’t write that question, FWIW (I *add* to the Gujarati questions, but this is a source Gujarati). There is an acceptable convention to signify a one-tailed null, as Gujarati does, with H0:B2 = 0. However, it seems confusing and inferior to the more specific. In this case, Gujarati means “H0:B2<=0” and it baffles me why all authors don’t add the “” to the “=” to make explicit the one-tailed. I appreciate the authors who signify the three possible nulls with: H0:B2 = 0 H0:B2 = 0 … the question otherwise, IMO, is weak (sorry). I think it would be better to ask [more...]

Can You Cheat In DNA Paternity Test?

DNA Paternity Test is the recent most widely used method of confirming a biological relationship of a supposed father to a child. There are two ways to perform the said test: 1. Court Admissible Test. This is a collection of samples and is performed through a controlled chain-of-custody procedure with a third party to act as a witness and verify the authenticity of the samples. Obviously this is a cheat proof system if a neutral and qualified third party witness is considered. 2. At-Home DNA Paternity Test. DNA Testing kit is usually sent at home and the person involved is responsible for [more...]

23andMe's DNA Mixup Leaves 96 Customers With Wrong Test Results by Amar Toor on June 8, 2010 at 12:45 PM As we know all too well here at Switched, everyone makes mistakes. Not everyone, however, makes mistakes quite as far-reaching as was the blunder that private DNA-testing company 23andMe recently made. On Friday, the company announced that "a number of new 23andMe customer samples were incorrectly processed" by the third-party lab that conducts the DNA tests, and confessed that "up to" 96 people received test results that weren't really theirs.
