Learn The Basic Process Of DNA Paternity Testing

However, how does DNA testing work? The DNA Paternity Test is conducted by taking DNA sample of the supposed father and the child. The child has a combination of the mother and father’s DNA that is a known fact. Thus, the child’s genome will contain almost equal parts of the mother and the father. The proof of paternity is obtained by comparing the DNA sequences of both the child and the supposed father. If their DNA results match, it means that the supposed father is indeed the child’s biological father. If it doesn’t, then it sets things clear and gives peace of mind to both [more...]

Pleiotropy: Some more junk DNA shown to have function

It shows a function for some "junk DNA" - DNA that does not serve any function for the developing organisms - namely in coding for micropeptides (very short proteins), which have now been shown to have a regulatory function in Drosophila. The first lines of the abstract readsA substantial proportion of eukaryotic transcripts are considered to be noncoding RNAs because they contain only short open reading frames (sORFs). Recent findings suggest, however, that some sORFs encode small bioactive peptides. Here, we show that peptides of 11 to 32 amino acids encoded by the polished rice (pri) sORF [more...]

DNA Testing Is A Slippery Slope For Casey Anthony Attorney's

I was shocked that the State of Florida had not already tested this bag and the contents inside for DNA, but apparently they have not. That said, I believe it is a huge mistake for Casey Anthony attorney's Jose Baez and Cheney Mason to focus attention on the science of DNA testing. DNA testing is a wonderful tool that has put many guilty people in prison and set free others who were not guilty. Since I believe Casey Anthony killed Caylee, for her attorney's to start desiring more DNA testing - they are placing on the public and legal record their trust and confidence in a science, which [more...]

My live news » Fallible DNA evidence can mean prison or freedom

“Labs are dire to get more samples and they’re trying to be clouded and lower amounts of DNA,” says John Butler, head of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology’s genetics arrange, which aims to improve standards in DNA testing. A standard DNA outline consists of a series of peaks relating to the number of repeating stretches of DNA rest in certain genetic sequences, or alleles (see diagram). The repeats occur at specified locations on the chromosomes, called loci, and there are two alleles at one and the other locus- one inherited from each parent. [more...]

A quick on-line search reveals many companies that offer “secret” or “discreet” DNA testing. The rapid proliferation of companies offering direct-to-consumer genetic testing at ever lower prices means that both the technology and motives exist for DNA theft. Yet in nearly every American jurisdiction, DNA theft is not a crime. Rather, the nonconsensual collection and analysis of another person’s DNA is virtually unconstrained by law. This article explains how DNA theft poses a serious threat to genetic privacy and why it merits consideration as a distinct criminal offense. You can [more...]

Child Visitation, Legitimation and Paternity

In the state of North Carolina, in the event that a couple experiences a divorce process and one parent includes primary physical custody of any child or children, the other parent will likely be awarded visitation rights in pretty much every situation. Mutation Rate In Humans Gets Measured By Direct Sequencing

With better measurements of mutation rates, we could improve the calibration of the evolutionary clock, or test ways to reduce mutations, for example. Even with the latest DNA sequencing technology, the researchers had to design a special strategy to search for the vanishingly rare mutations. They used next-generation sequencing to establish the order of letters on the two Y chromosomes and then compared these to the Y chromosome reference sequence. Having identified 23 candidate SNPs – or single letter changes in the DNA – they amplified the regions containing these candidates and [more...]

Can You Cheat In DNA Paternity Test?

DNA Paternity Test is the recent most widely used method of confirming a biological relationship of a supposed father to a child. There are two ways to perform the said test: 1. Court Admissible Test. This is a collection of samples and is performed through a controlled chain-of-custody procedure with a third party to act as a witness and verify the authenticity of the samples. Obviously this is a cheat proof system if a neutral and qualified third party witness is considered. 2. At-Home DNA Paternity Test. DNA Testing kit is usually sent at home and the person involved is responsible for [more...]

Factors That Will Affect Sperm Health_26166

It should be noted that when the typical sperm analysis reveals normal count, morphology and motility this does not mean that sperm DNA fragmentation is not manifest. In other words, unless the SDIA test is specifically run, fragmentation issues will not be revealed. This type of case then may be labeled ‘idiopathic’ infertility. It is our opinion based on clinical experience that ideally, both the man and the women should be treated even if there is no apparent male factor evident. The reason for this is that stress has been shown to reduce sperm count. Going through the tortuous trial [more...]
