Asbestos Damage – Asbestos Dust And Dna Damage

You can buy asbestos test kits in any home store inexpensively. And as a matter of fact, they are relatively easy to use. But are they providing you with reliable results? Before we get into that question, let’s have a brief look at the material asbestos and why we still need to be mindful of the environment we are living in. Asbestos occurs in nature. It is a fibrous and friable material. Friable means that it can be broken up very easily into smaller pieces with using only very little amount of pressure. On the other hand, asbestos has been used in the manufacturing process of a wide [more...]

Find out the truth through DNA Paternity Testing : : Health ...

There have been many cases when DNA testing has been ordered to be performed by courts in order to settle the legal battle for divorce between wives and husbands. There have been instances when the father of the child wanted to make sure of his biological parentage before taking the responsibility of the child. To solve such disputes the court may permit a recognized organisation to conduct the DNA paternity test for determining the biological father of the child. Sometimes during an organ transplant operation, the DNA paternity test becomes significant [more...]

Where in the World is Zehra?: An Open Letter to Hebrew University

It has been brought to my attention that Professor Maya Kahanoff was recently let go from The Hebrew University on the grounds of her personal politics; it was made clear that her lifetime of knowledge on peace and understanding were no longer welcome at your university. As a student who was also made to feel unwelcome at The Hebrew University, I find this news incredibly painful, as Maya Kahanoff was a source of inspiration to everyone who met her; she personally touched me and completely transformed my educational experience at your institution. Lending new life to the demise of Louis XVI, scientists performed a battery of DNA tests on dried blood inside a decorative gunpowder gourd that purportedly contained one such handkerchief. The results, described Oct. 12 in the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics, show the blood belongs to a blue-eyed male from that time period: a possible dead-ringer for the executed king. “The next step is find a descendant either of the king or his mother,” said Davide Pettener, a population geneticist at the University of Bologna in Italy who helped with the analysis. “Otherwise we’ll [more...]

Editorial: Test all DNA in Skinner case | Explore The Law

Rape victims involved in 20 Dallas County DNA exoneration cases know that. At one point, they thought they could go on with their lives knowing justice had been done, but it really hadn't been. Opponents of Texas' 2001 law providing access to DNA said the courts already had what they needed to deal with potential cases of miscarriage of justices, a position that looks silly today. It's possible that Skinner is as guilty as the West Texas sky is blue. Texas courts say they're sure of it. But they don't have all the facts, and there's no excuse not to have them. Scientists know that the key to unlocking neurological disorders begins with a full understanding of how neurons are generated and sustained. Their findings reveal that the life cycle of adult hippocampal baby neurons was not what was previously thought.  In fact, very soon after birth, within 1 to 4 days of life, newborn cells reach a critical stage in which many of them die by [more...]
